GM, union reach tentative deal
Article Abstract:
General Motors Corp. and the United Auto Workers have forged a tentative agreement to end two strikes at the automaker's parts plants in Flint, MI. Workers at the two parts factories will start voting on Jul 29, 1998, on the agreement to put a stop on the strikes that cost the automaker over $2 billion and stopped production at nearly all of its plants in North America. Apart from halting the strikes at the Flint parts plants, the deal also stipulates settling the disputes at the Buick City assembly facility in Flint at at parts plants in Dayton, OH, without strikes and awarding a one-time payment to workers who missed their yearly holiday pay due to the strikes.
