Windows2000 is Microsoft's next version of its operating system. Although this version will give consumer more accessibility and features, marketing it will be a difficult task because most consumers cannot distinguish between old and newer versions. Consequently, Microsoft's executive vice-president and chief operating officer Bob Herbold, who worked for Procter and Gamble and managed their advertising, will attempt to convince consumers to upgrade to Windows2000.

Open-source software, also called shareware, was created to help many people develop software. One of the better-known examples is Linux, an operating system that functions like Unix. Sun Microsystems will be providing source codes for its Solaris operating system, to be offered early in 2000.
