IBP faces 15-count pollution lawsuit, up to $241 million in fines

The Justice Dept has filed a lawsuit against IBP Inc in Omaha, NE, for an alleged decade-long pattern of environmental abuses at its Dakota City, NE, plant. The 15-count, civil lawsuit is seeking fines of as much as $241.5 million as a result of a three-year investigation where the Justice Dept and the EPA intervened in Nebraska's allegedly unsuccessful efforts to regulate the meatpacking giant's hazardous wastes reporting and disposal procedures.
