ISRAEL ANNOUNCES OFFICIAL DECISION TO REMOVE ARAFAT
Article Abstract:
Ariel Sharon and his cabinet have announced their decision to take steps to isolate Yasir Arafat through expulsion, jail or a condemnation of death. The announcement generated the expected Palestinian demonstrations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Palestine National Authority (PNA) officials did not expect Israel to act because of US pressure. Arafat has continued to solidify his power over the PNA by rejecting newly appointed Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei's nomination of Nasser Yousef as interior minister with full control of security forces that Arafat wants to lead.
