Internet provider pursues legal action to can spam

I.D. Internet Direct Ltd has sued Cory Altelaar for sending unsolicited e- mail over the Internet. The filing with the Ontario Court's General Division marked the first time that a Canadian Internet service provider is taking a 'spam artist' to court. Toronto, Canada-based I.D. Internet has filed a cease-and-desist order against Altelaar for sending 150,000 unsolicited e-mails to promote a home business plan in four separate occasions in 1998.

OSC assailed for 'unbridled' use of power
