It wasn't as easy as 1-2-3, but Lotus has a winner
Article Abstract:
Lotus Development Corp's $495 1-2-3 for Windows 4.0 spreadsheet software is an impressive product that is easier to use than earlier 1-2-3 versions. It is ideal for managers who collaborate with other workers in preparing a financial plan. Version 4.0's most interesting new feature is its version manager, which allows multiple workers to create their own version of the same spreadsheet without overwriting the other workers' changes. Version manager enables a single spreadsheet to create multiple scenarios, each of which is labeled with the creator's name and the date it was done. A separate comment box allows users to add comments on changes made. When used with Lotus' Notes office automation software, 1-2-3 for Windows 4.0 allows multiple users to simultaneously make changes to the same spreadsheet without cancelling each other's changes.

New for graphic artists: Photoshop for Windows
Article Abstract:
Adobe Systems Inc's $895 PhotoShop for Windows 2.5 image processing software appears to be just as good as its popular Macintosh counterpart. Files created on one version can be used on the other. Adobe recommends at least a fast Intel 80486-based computer with 8Mbytes of RAM to run this professional-strength program. PhotoShop also consumes huge amounts of hard-disk space. Files are almost never sent by floppy disk or modem but rather by removable hard disk. The ability to perform image processing on economical Intel-based microcomputers is a breakthrough for artists, many of whom had to do their work on rented workstations. Several graphics professionals, including Mandi Riggi of Duggal Color Projects Inc in Manhattan, are enthusiastic about the Windows-based PhotoShop.
