Japan Is Spending Heavily to Pursue a Weak-Yen Policy
Article Abstract:
Japan is manipulating the strength of the yen by making sure?its value against the US dollar is limited. This strategy is achieved by using trillions of yen to purchase US dollars in the foreign exchange market. This has kept the yen's rise against the dollar to no more than 2.3% which contrasts with the euro's gain of 13.5% at its peak in 2003. A lower yen has helped Japanese exports remain competitive, thus enhancing the nation's economic productivity.
