Jobs Report Leads Bush to Defend Reliance on Tax Cuts
Article Abstract:
Pres. Bush is pushing the advantages of his tax cut policies for the US economic recovery while new unemployment statistics show there is no good news for unemployed Americans. Over 93,000 jobs were lost in Aug. 2003 despite other financial indicators that economic growth is reviving. Bush is aware that positive employment news was needed to counter growing Democratic Party criticism that his tax and economic policies are hurting the US. The president prefers to blame China's undervalued yuan as a reason why US manufacturers cannot hire more workers.
