Larry gets curly
Article Abstract:
Cyclone Larry whipped itself from a mere tropical storm into a category four dervish within 24 hours and hit Innisfall, where chaos and destruction followed, but the town's 8500 residents and the quarter-million other Queenslanders in Larry's 400km-wide path put up a strong defence against the cyclone's rage. Many took the urgent advice of Premier Peter Beattle and evacuated prior to Larry's category five arrival, while others, skilled in the art of cyclone survival, loaded up with provisions and rode out the 290kmh winds in houses made as secure as possible under the circumstances.
