Layoff Rate at 8.7%, Highest Since 80's
Article Abstract:
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the layoff rate of all adult jobholders has reached 8.7 percent, the second-fastest rate in the U.S. since the Great Depression. The rate of layoffs in the past three years is greater than in the 1990-1991 recession. Although most displaced workers are reemployed fairly soon, they report that they are earning less in their new jobs than in the jobs they lost.
