Leaky boat of globalisation
Article Abstract:
Australian Prime Minister John Howard and the Danish Liberal Party have each recently won elections based partly on their hard line approach to asylum seekers. A recently published book indicates that a move toward globalization in the late 1800s and early 1900s was ended by mass migration (36 million people) from Europe, which depressed wages in the target countries and boosted them in the countries of origin. Backlash against migration also impeded efforts at increased globalization in the period between the World Wars.
