Article Abstract:
Researchers at McMaster University and Statistics Canada have conducted a massive study to determine the cause of death of 1.2 million Canadians of European, South Asian and Chinese descent from 1979 to 1993. The study aimed to show to link beween death ethnicity and sickness in Canada. The results showed difference between the ethnic groups' susceptibility to common diseases such as high rates of heart disease and cancers for Europeans, higher rates of heart diease and diabetes for South Asians and higher rates of gastrointestinal cancers for Chinese.

Private sector gets jump in race for genome
Article Abstract:
Norwalk, Md.-based Celera Genomics Group, which is a leading biotechnology company, said it is close to mapping the human genome. Celera is competing against other biotechnology companies and scientists, such as Canada's Dr. Lap-Chee Tsui, in the public-private race that exists under the Human Genome Project.
