Article Abstract:
The public pronouncements of the Australian Reserve Bank chief, Ian MacFarlane about the interest rates leaves many analysts confused about the exact nature of his announcement in relation to the direction in which he wanted to steer the economy. Financial analysts feel that the Reserve Bank wants to go back to the original neutral zone, but it is generally acknowledged that the concept of a permanent natural or neutral interest rate is only academic in nature and not practical.
