Love of Leisure, and Europe's Reasons
Article Abstract:
Although Europe has not equalled U.S. economic expansion and its citizens are poorer on average than Americans, Europeans enjoy more leisure and a generous welfare state with certain advantages, such as a smaller prison population, lower incidence of illiteracy and less child poverty than the United States, not to mention higher life expectancy and more years of good health in old age.
