Luxury's the name of the game at New York Auto Show

Automobile suppliers have unveiled an array of luxury vehicles at the 2000 New York Auto Show. Infiniti Div introduced its Infiniti Q45 sedan sports, whic has a 4.5-liter V-8 rated 340 horsepower while Lexus Div launched its SC 430, which features a retractable hardtop and a 4.3-liter, 300- horsepower V-8 engine. In addition, Acura Div launched its seven-passenger sport-utility vehicle Acura MDX, which is priced at about $35,000.

Photographers catch glimpse of '02 Thunderbird

Ford Motor Co's scheduled public unveiling of the 2002 version of the Thunderbird car in Aug 2000, at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance near Monterey, CA, has been preempted by spy photographers. Unauthorized pictures of the luxury two-seater car presents no serious differences from the concept car that was shown at auto shows in 1999 and early 2000. Ford's 2002 T-bird, which will go into production in 2001, is the third model to feature a rear-wheel-drive platform.

Nissan: new Z all sports car

Nissan's revived Z sports car will be available in mid-2002 as an '03 model. Designed to evoke the memories of the popular 1970 Datsun 240Z, the new Z is a two-seater that the automaker will insist is a pure sports car. The new Z sports car is intended to feature a high-performance V-6 engine rated at over 260 hp and will carry a price at less than $30,000. A prototype of the '03 Z will be shown to reporters at the Detroit auto show on Jan 8, 2001 and put on public display at the Los Angeles auto show the following day.
