Intel, FTC settle, avoid antitrust trial
Article Abstract:
Intel Corp has averted an antitrust trial brought about by charges by the FTC that it had demanded product secrets from customers while withholding technical information from them. The avoidance of a trial will enable Intel from being classified a monopoly and from incurring huge litigation expenses. While the details of the agreement have not been revealed, sources privy to the case say that Intel has promised not to repeat its questionable actions.

Microsoft defense weakened?
Article Abstract:
Microsoft critics believe the company's move to launch a new Internet browser will offer the government a good argument to use in the ongoing antitrust trial against the company. Internet Explorer 5.0, expected to be launched Mar 18, 1999, does not offer the graphical feature being contested by antitrust authorities. However, Microsoft product manager Rob Bennet disputed the claims and denied that the product is any less enmeshed with Windows.
