MacBlo boss helps giant gain footing
Article Abstract:
MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. CEO Thomas Stephens has paved the way towards recovery for the Canadian forest products giant. Stephens expects the company to return to the black in 1998 after posting a C$368 million net loss in the previous year. Joining the company on Sept. 29, 1997, he has tried to overhaul the company's laid-back corporate culture and impressed a sense of urgency and crisis upon his managers and employees. His basic strategy is to nurse the company's core business back to health, particularly by finding new markets to replace Japan.
