Manley brushes aside productivity report
Article Abstract:
A report by Statistics Canada showed that the country's total productivity in the business sector grew by an average of 0.7% annually betweeen 1988 and 1997, compared with 0.4% in the US. In contrast, a report released by the OECD showed that Canada's productivity growth was -0.4% annually from 1990 to 1996, compared to +0.5% in the US. Industry Minister John Manley said that the international report indicates that Canada should boost its productivity to increase living standards.
