Microchip Technology names new president
Article Abstract:
Steve Sanghi, 35, has been named president and chief operating officer of semiconductor manufacturer Microchip Technology Inc. Sanghi succeeds Donald R. Sorchych, 58, who resigned as president and chief executive officer in May 1990. The company has not announced anyone to assume the job of chief executive officer. Microchip expects to post a small profit for its current quarter in 1990, after suffering losses for several of the past quarters. It has realigned its focus away from commodity products to more specialized chips. The company has shifted away from the standard memory chip and is moving toward more proprietary products, including a line of microcontrollers that use reduced instruction set computer (RISC) technology.
