Two prominent American political scientists were called anti-Semitic as they started a furor in academic and foreign-policy circle by arguing U.S. President George W. Bush and other American presidents made decisions about the Middle East, including the war in Iraq, which were best for Israel, not the US. The critics have faulted Stephen M. Walt of Harvard and John J. Mearsheimer of the University of Chicago's view of the 'Israel lobby' as far more extensive than the influential American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
