Mobile phones spur Rogers profit surge

Mobile phone results produced higher sales and operating profit growth at Rogers Communications Inc. in the second quarter in 2004, which led the company to increase its financial outlook for the year. Rogers Communications own about 56 per cent of Rogers Wireless and also had interest in taking AT&T Wireless Services Inc.'s 34.1 per cent stake in the company but the offer was rejected.

Branson's Virgin teams with Bell

Virgin Mobile Canada LLC, equally owned by Sir Richard Branson of Virgin Group PLC and Bell Mobility Inc., plans to introduce its mobile phone service in Canada by December 2004 and is targeting people younger than 25. The mobile service costs 25 cents for the first 10 minutes of use each day and 10 cents for all minutes thereafter.
