More borrowers, fewer deadbeats are boosting the bottom line

Customers borrowing more with fewer defaults helped by a buoyant economy are expected to keep bank profits rising into the future. The Bank of Montreal in the third quarter results of 2004 experienced $110-million of unexpected earnings which included collecting $39-million on an outstanding debt from a food processor and $13-million from a utility.
