Mutual funds at a deep discount

Some investors use deep-discount mutual fund dealers so that they can avoid paying commission charges on load funds. Full service brokers often charge 5% and conventional discount brokers 1% to 2/12% on transactions. The deep-discounters do not provide investment advice or other services.

The Canadian mutual fund industry grew 50% from Oct 1996 to Oct 1997, and now has assets of about $279.7 billion. Mutual funds offer investors many advantages including diversification, professional management and good return for moderate risk. Investment advice is presented.

Many Canadians are unhappy with the low returns being paid on guaranteed investment certificates and are moving their money into mutual funds. The deadline for investing in registered retirement savings plans is Feb 28, 1996. Some mutual funds earned over 40% in 1995.
