After years of political suppression under former president Soeharto, the world's largest national of Muslims prepare for Indonesia's parliamentary elections. Islam has emerged as a major political force and the elections will be influential in shaping the country's new political landscape. Two of the nation's largest Muslim organization are backing separate candidates and President Habibie is also courting key figures before the June 1999 election.
