A study report related to pregnancy-linked depression and the effects of anti-depressants on the health of pregnant women and newborn babies is detailed. Treating a pregnant woman for depression is a delicate balancing act, a constant weighing of risks and benefits to the mother and to the fetus with critical intervention since mother's mental health directly affects the mental health of her children.

Guidelines and advice to pregnant women experiencing depression that would help them to decide medication and treatment benefiting mother as well as fetus is offered. Research reports showed that compared to antidepressants treatment, risk of depression was far more harmful to the mother as well as fetus, which in extreme cases could lead to death of both mother and child.
