Biovail Corporation International, a pharmaceutical company, will issue common shares for planned small niche acquisition targets in the US. The company will double the number of authorized common shares to 120 million, a plan already approved by shareholders. The move is part of its goal to become a consolidator as the US pharmaceutical industry embarks on a sweeping consolidation. Biovail has six generic products, which have annual bran-name sales of $2 billion, awaiting approval from the US Food and Drug Administration.

TLC The Laser Center Inc of Toronto has announced its plan to issue four million shares, including a secondary offering of 1.4 million shares. The company said that it will use the C$150.8-million proceeds from the sale of new 2.6 million shares to boost its operations in the US, including planned and future strategic alliances.
