Nasdaq-Amex divorce quietly nears finish
Article Abstract:
The separation of the Nasdaq Stock Market Inc and the American Stock Exchange Inc, which merged in 1998, is expected to be finished by the end of Dec 2000. The National Assn of Securities Dealers, which owns both stock markets, is selling Nasdaq to private investors and plans to do the same with the American Stock Exchange in two or three years. The exchanges are in the process of separating their Web sites, communications staffs, human resources and legal departments.

President nominates Pitt for SEC leadership
Article Abstract:
Harvey Pitt, a partner in DC law firm Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson, has been nominated as the next chairman of the SEC, succeeding Arthur Levitt Jr. Pitt is described as a savvy lawyer, and counts several Wall Street firms among his clients. These include the Securities Industry Assn and the New York Stock Exchange. He was also the lawyer of Ivan Boesky, a Wall Street trader who was convicted on charges of insider trading.
