The stock price of Bligh Oil rose almost 50% to 24.5 Australian cents in December 2000 following rumors that the company would release good results from its Rimu project in the Taranaki basin in New Zealand, but dropped back to 20 cents the following week. The excitement affected other oil companies' prices, including those of Pancontinental Oil and Gas.

When Australian company Marlborough Resources began producing low cost tin from the Ardlethan mine in June 2001, the stock price dropped to 8.5 cents per share, and is now ack up to 10c. Although the price in US terms is low, tin is profitable for low-cost producers such as Marlborough Resources, and the company's stock is therefore trading low.
