Industry analyst Euromonitor reports that in 2003 Australians spent more than $1.5bn on pet food and care products while Australian Bureau of Statistics suggest a further $174m was spent on veterinarian bills. Some companies, including GIO and Suncorp offer basic pet cover as an option on their home and contents polices.
