Presidential libraries: Issues at SMU
Article Abstract:
Faculty members at the Southern Methodist University (SMU) are concerned with the decision of Turner, the university's president, to host a presidential library for The U.S. President George W. Bush. They believe that such a move could disturb the university's capital campaign by fund-raising efforts for the Bush complex. However, Turner is promising that negotiations for the Bush library, museum and policy institute will not affect the university's academic policies and financial interests.

Article Abstract:
A debate is presented on whether Southern Methodist University (SMU) should host the U.S. President George W. Bush's presidential library. Supporters believe that such a move will contribute to the university's reputation, and increase the quantity and quality of applicants to the university. However, opponents argue that the facility will be a continued political propaganda for the Bush administration and its policies.
