Quebecor slashes 65 jobs at beleaguered Canoe unit

Quebecor Inc. (Montreal) cuts 65 jobs at its under-performing Canoe Inc. (Toronto) Internet unit. The restructuring comes two weeks after Quebecor announced a second-quarter loss of $8.1-million at Canoe. The announcement also comes in the wake of a string of high-profile executive departures from Canoe, including that of its CEO John Paton. The restructuring covers all levels and all regions of Canada, including the local city sites, called FYI in English Canada and ICI in Quebec.

Quebecor cutbacks continue

Montreal, Que.-based Videotron Ltee. and Netgraphe Inc., which are divisions of Quebecor Media Inc., have cut jobs and begun a new cost-cutting strategy. Videotron, which is led by chairman Serge Gouin, has implemented a new cost-cutting plan that is aimed at reducing annual costs by $40 million.
