This article focuses on the growth of sports for women, particularly boxing, in Australia and on how those represents a rebellion against the stereotype of feminine passivity. Relevant points include the experiences of writer and boxer Mischa Merz as described in her book, "Bruising: Women, Violence, and the Sweet Science" and the resistance of both sexists and many feminists to the participation of women in boxing and other contact sports.
