Rates danger
Article Abstract:
Unexpected increase in bond yields in the beginning of February 1999 has created uncertainty about interest rates in Australia. The bond yield increase may precipitate an increase in interest rates, which would affect significant sectors of the economy, including bonds, shares, and property. Economic analysts are in a difficult position because the increase in interest rates is a possibility but not a certainty. Long-term rates may be more susceptible to an increase.
