Reject 20,000 U.S. gene-patent applications, group urges

The Human Genome Organization has asked its member in 57 countries to reject patents on genes for which researchers have no knowledge of potential uses. The international organization claimed that 20,000 patent applications for raw human genetic material should be withdrawn.

Can antibiotics stop heart attacks?

Scientists are critical of the widespread use of antibiotics to treat heart disease. Dr. Bill Fong of the University of Toronto said that such a medical procedure may be misguided since adequate has not been conducted.
