Rio Alto expands to Argentina, reports profit jump
Article Abstract:
Rio Alto Exploration Ltd. (Calgary), an oil and gas company, has acquired assets in the San Jorge Basin area of Argentina for $64-million. The acquisition adds 1,800 barrels a day of crude oil production to Rio Alto and includes 50,000 acres of undeveloped land. Analysts applauded the acquisition, noting that Rio Alto had been looking for opportunities outside Canada. Although the purchase is small, relative to Rio Alto's average daily production of 82,300 barrels of oil equivalent in the first half of 2000, it shows that the company is setting the stage for future growth.
