SEC encourages open conference calls on the NET
Article Abstract:
The SEC has released for public comment a set of proposed rules that would prohibit selective disclosure or the practice of providing potentially stock-moving information to a select few analysts and institutional investors. A key provision in the proposed regulations would enable companies to comply simply by making their conferences available by telephone or on the Internet. SEC Chmn Arthur Levitt has been urging companies for quite some time to use the Internet to open their discussions.

Stocks show healthy signs
Article Abstract:
The long-term health of the stock market seems to be assured according to a number of indicators, pointing to a market that is broadening out. While market indexes have simmered down, more individual stocks are rising in value. The 360 stocks in Standard & Poor's 500 index gained an average of 7.1% while the index itself increased by only 6.1%. S&P's index of midsize stocks increased 22% through August compared to the S&P 500's paltry 3.3%.

Small investors to get equal access to company information
Article Abstract:
The SEC, under the administration of Chmn Arthur Levitt is about to implement a rule that is expected to benefit small investors. The rule is called FD, or "fair disclosure." It requires companies to disclosed material information publicly and not just to brokerage house analysts and institutional investors. Big brokerage houses and fund managers in Wall Street, however, are opposed to the rule, saying that it will do more harm than good.
