Sears Canada posts another record profit for year, 4th quarter

Sears Canada Inc, of Toronto, Ontario, has posted a record profit of C$146.4 million, or C$1.38 per share, on sales of C$5 billion for the year ended Jan 2, 1999, up from C$11.5 million, or C$1.10 per share, on C$4.6 billion in 1997. The company reported strong earnings despite the general softening of the Canadian economy and strongly competitive pre-Christmas price wars among department stores.
