Shutdown looms at Davie shipyard
Article Abstract:
Davie Industries Inc. of Levis, Quebec, is facing potential shutdown due to lack of finances which would threaten job security for over 1,000 employees at the shipyard. The company, which is presently the sole surviving shipyard in the province, has already received plenty of provincial and federal funds in the last 10 years. Davie's owner, Dominion Bridge Corp., needs to secure temporary financing for two weeks, noted Dominion Bridge spokesman Daniel Larouche. Larouche added that this would take the form of down payments on operations and short-term daily operations.
