Almost 32% of Australian adults own shares directly in 1999, which is double the number of people four years ago. The major factor driving this growth has been the privatization of Telstra, AMP, National Mutual and Colonial Mutual, Commonwealth Bank, and others. While the growth has been beneficial, most investors have unbalanced share portfolios.
