Telstra chairman and chief executive's proposal to buy newspaper publisher, John Fairfax is discussed. The Telstra board did not approve the proposal as the company delivered low growth for the past two years and the suitability of Fairfax and Telstra as a combination is problematic since the management of Fairfax failed to deliver a third generation mobile phone network.
