Calgary is gaining an edge in its rivalry with Edmonton. Edmonton is slashing its spending, and some of its key businesses have moved to Calgary. Many in Edmonton believe that the cutbacks are a result of their failure to elect any conservatives to Alberta's legislature.

Siege of the Freemen
Article Abstract:
A small group calling themselves Freemen is engaged in a standoff with the FBI on a ranch near Jordan, Montana. The siege began after authorities arrested two of the groups leaders on Mar 25, 1996. One Canadian, Dale Martin Jacobi, is a member of the group.
