Article Abstract:
Increased economic competition and corporate restructuring have brought rising unemployment to Japanese workers. Displaced workers have become victims of alcoholism and suicide and domestic violence has increased. 1999 predictions indicate jobs will continue to be cut in both the private and public sectors.

Cars as toys
