Paul O'Sullivan, appointed as the new ASIO chief with a key public relations role, will become a public figure unlike Brigadier Charles Spry, ASIO's second director-general who preferred to carry out his activities secretly. He will need to win the confidence of the Islamic community in Australia to try to ensure that ASIO raids on the homes of Muslim terrorist suspects are not viewed as anti-Muslim.
