This article examines the thesis that Australia's current prosperity constitutes a New Economy as a result of reforms undertaken over the past 15 years, first by the Hawke-Keating government and then by the Howard-Costello government. Relevant points include the specific structural, political, and cultural changes, such as privatization and lowered tariffs, that have made this New Economy possible.
