Liberalism's long shadow lingers on

Neo-conservatism has made some inroads in Canada's political landscape, but liberalism remains the dominant political philosophy. The recent emphasis on balanced budgets and fiscal austerity should not obscure the fact that most Canadians believe in liberal social-welfare programs.

The time has come to declare a republic
Article Abstract:
Canadian policymakers should seriously consider changing Canada's relationship with the UK and its Commonwealth. The monarchy is an anachronism, and Canada's ties to it form a barrier to both constitutional reform and to true unity between English Canada and Quebec.
