Many couples with multiple properties are trying to cheat their way out of a tough array of state and federal tax laws, by claiming tax exemptions on the properties owned. In New South Wales and Victoria, new taxes like capital gains tax, land tax, and vendor duty has led to financial misbehavior among married couples.

The new law giving Australian employees the right to choose their superannuation would provide a significant boost to the rapid growth of self-managed super funds. Some of the challenges offered by such do-it-yourself (DIY) funds are discussed.
