Officials at the World Trade Organization have admitted that poor countries are not benefitting as much as rich countries from international trade agreements. The textile industry is one of the trade sectors identified by the WTO as producing inequitable trade balances.

Economic union possible for Canada, U.S., Mexico

The director of the Federal Reserve Board's Center for Latin America Economics, William Gruben, predicted that the U.S., Mexico and canada will eventually form a monetary union. Industry analysts said that a monetary union could prove successful for the region since the countries share similar economies.

WTO ambassador sees trade talks falling short of target

The Canadian ambassador to the World Trade Organization, Sergio Marchi, said that global trade negotiations will be disappointing in Cancun, Mexico next week of rich countries do not eliminate agricultural subsidies. Marchi referred to the subsidies as "mass weapons of trade destruction."
