Truckers give safety gear a big 10-4
Article Abstract:
Technological advances are enabling trucking operators to considerably improve truck safety on US highways. For example, more than 10,000 trucks in the US are already equipped with compact, radar-powered collision systems linked to sensors located on the front of the trucks. This device is one of a series of safety devices emerging fom the truck industry's reserach pipeline. National Tranportation Safety Board Chmn Jim Hall noted that technology is significant in reducing the 5,300 truck-related fatalities in US highways in 1998.

Canada's Ford workers may strike
Article Abstract:
Ford Motor Co's workers in Canada may stage a walkout but the US automaker said that an agreement could be reached before the deadline. Pensions, wages and benefits are the major issues presented by the union in its labor talks with Ford. A strike by the workers, who are represented by the Canadian Auto Workers union, could pose a threat to Ford minivan sales and light truck production.
