Turning the desktop PC into a talk radio medium
Article Abstract:
Carl Malamud is pioneering a new medium with his new Internet Talk Radio program, digitally broadcast over the Internet network. The half-hour show, to be broadcast weekly, will interview a prominent computer industry individual, and is aimed at those researchers and programmers with equipment powerful enough to receive the broadcast. Receiving the broadcast requires 15Mbytes of storage, and a modem with a 64K-bps receive rate. The show can be listened to as broadcast, or stored and then listened to, if less powerful equipment is used. Listeners will be able to select the portions they wish to listen to from a menu of the show's contents. Currently, Internet could not support a video version of the program. However, that limitation is expected to be eliminated with the advent of the data superhighway.
