What is 'classroom drill' in French?
Article Abstract:
Hyperglot Software Co introduces its $59.95 French Reading Lab I: 3 by Maupassant educations software. It is the first in a series of foreign language reading programs for use on the Apple Macintosh. The stories on the software are "La Parure," "Garcon, un Bock!" and "Le Papa de Simon" by Guy de Maupassant. Users access a story and have a choice of accessing the Reader's Guide, which gives remarks about the story and particular verb tense assistance; the text itself; Background on Maupassant and the 19th-century literary school of Naturalism; and two sets of Activities with true or false, fill-in and reading comprehension questions on the story. The Text section includes a dictionary, to which users can add words and definitions. Hyperglot plans similar products in Spanish, German, Italian and Russian. Other language-related programs are available from Transparent Language, and Hyperglot also has a Berlitz series.

The list price is $495 but registered owners of any DOS- or Windows-based word processor can buy the program for $129.
